CAPABILITY GROUP 06 / COMMERCIAL DESIGN

Brand identity engineered for shelf impact & printing reality.

We bridge the gap between creative visual concepts and physical production reality. Dieline engineering, prepress file preparation, color separations, and on-site print supervision.

THE PACKAGING TRAP

Why beautiful digital mockups fail
on Pakistani printing presses.

01 / PREPRESS DISCONNECT

The RGB Mockup Illusion

Freelance graphic designers create stunning RGB 3D renders that cannot be printed on local flexographic or rotogravure presses due to missing bleed, unseparated spot colors, and illegal dielines.

02 / RUNAWAY TOOLING COSTS

Wasted Cylinders & Dies

Engraving 6 to 8 rotogravure printing cylinders or cutting high-precision carton dies costs hundreds of thousands of PKR. An unverified barcode or typographical error renders the entire cylinder set useless.

03 / SHELF INVISIBILITY

Lost in Modern Trade Shelves

Packaging designed in isolation looks bland when placed next to aggressive local and multinational competition under harsh Pakistani supermarket neon lighting.

WHAT WE DELIVER

Four Commercial Design Modules
from Concept to Carton.

MODULE 6.1

Commercial Brand Architecture & Identity

Objectives

Establish a distinctive visual and verbal identity that communicates value, credibility, and memorability across Pakistani consumer touchpoints.

Scope Activities

  • Brand positioning, naming architecture, and commercial brand promise
  • Vector logo system (primary, secondary, horizontal, monochrome)
  • Curated color palette with Pantone, CMYK, RGB & Hex specifications
  • Brand guidelines manual governing typography, photography, and layout
Key Deliverable Comprehensive Brand Guidelines & Vector Asset Repository.
MODULE 6.2

Dieline Engineering & Substrate Selection

Objectives

Select the optimal physical structure and material substrate that protects the product, fits retail shelves, and optimizes production costs.

Scope Activities

  • Structural dieline drafting (folding cartons, rigid boxes, sleeves, corrugated master cartons)
  • Substrate recommendation (bleached kraft, duplex board, SBS, BOPP laminate, tinplate)
  • Barrier properties check (moisture, oxygen, light degradation)
  • Machine packing compatibility (form-fill-seal FFS clearances)
Key Deliverable Engineered Vector Dieline File & Material Substrate Technical Sheet.
MODULE 6.3

Prepress Production Files & Color Separation

Objectives

Deliver 100% press-ready artwork that printers can process immediately without color shifting, font dropouts, or trapping errors.

Scope Activities

  • High-resolution print-ready files (Adobe Illustrator vector format)
  • Choke, spread, and trapping tolerances calibrated for local press registration
  • Barcode compliance (GS1 EAN-13 verification at 100% scannability)
  • Mandatory regulatory layout (ingredients, net weight, MFG/EXP dates, batch box)
Key Deliverable Final Press-Ready Vector Production Artwork & Color Separation Sheets.
MODULE 6.4

Print Vendor Coordination & Press Approvals

Objectives

Protect your capital during cylinder engraving, plate burning, and the critical first run on the printing press.

Scope Activities

  • Digital proof and wet proof color review before mass printing
  • Cylinder engraving and flexo polymer plate sign-off review
  • On-site press-check inspection at printer facility in Karachi/Lahore
  • Batch color tolerance matching against approved master swatches
Key Deliverable Printer Pre-Flight Sign-Off & Press Approval Quality Record.

TYPICAL ENGAGEMENT SCENARIO

Packaging Overhaul for a Household Detergent Brand

A regional chemical and detergent manufacturer had invested in automatic vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machinery, but their existing flexible packaging tore repeatedly along the seal and the inks rubbed off in humid Karachi retail stores.

SourceIt re-engineered the film structure: specified a 3-layer laminated barrier film (PET / Metalized BOPP / Polyethylene) with corona treatment for ink adhesion, re-designed the dieline with eye-mark registration sensors for high-speed machine tracking, and supervised the cylinder engraving at a premier flexible packaging converter. The client achieved zero machine jamming and pristine shelf durability.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we supply our own graphic designer's work for you to prepress?

Yes. We offer a dedicated Prepress & Production Verification sprint where we take your existing creative files, correct bleeds, convert color profiles, verify dielines, and supervise the printer handoff.

Do you handle printing directly or introduce printers?

We work as your technical client representative. You pay the printer directly at actual cost without agency markup, while we ensure the printer executes your specifications accurately.

How do you ensure GS1 barcodes scan properly in stores?

We enforce strict quiet zones (white margins), high contrast ratios (black on white or dark spot color), and vector bar generation to guarantee 100% first-pass scanning at supermarket checkouts.
